Hack is a strong word, but here are some ideas to make life a little better for you and the people around you:
- For any kind of feedback to land, acknowledge their positives first, then deliver your message.
- Don’t break the awkward silence. Let them break it and give you more information.
- Don’t say anything unless you have something to add.
- Don’t get angry when someone doesn’t do their job well. Ask what makes them act this way.
- It takes two people, equally working, both on themselves and the relationship to make it work. Losing that balance in either direction will break down the relationship.
- Nobody cares what you do – they have their own lives. So do whatever the f*ck you want.
- Your choices are only for you, and only for now. You don’t have to justify them to the world, and you don’t have to stick with them forever.
- Pay yourself as soon as you get paid. It’s the only way you can’t go broke.
- Journal, so your thoughts can be useful. You don’t have to do it daily, and you don’t have to start with “dear journal”.
- Set your goals based on the joy of the process of achieving them, not the imagined joy of having achieved them.
- Share what you already know, or share what you're learning as you learn it. Do this for the rest of your life, and you’re set.
- If you want to hit the gym 3 days a week, commit to 4.
- Flush as it drops. No plop, no stain, no stink.
- When in self-doubt, focus on the things you actually get done, not how you feel about them.
- Quitting something is making space for something else. Quit with purpose.
- All your problems will be solved if you wait long enough.
- It’s not about what (you think) you know, it’s about what you do with it.
- Social media is designed to validate your existing beliefs. It’s on you to question them.
- If you have to say you’re it, you’re not it.
I’ll keep adding to this list, so check back every now and then.
