Frugal, not cheap

A lot of people around me work jobs they hate, just to get by.

They all have dreams: an app to launch, a product to sell, a café to open, and a hope to get rich. But they never take action because they can’t go a month without the stable income their job offers.

They all complain about not making enough money, no matter how much they make. But they also have the latest iPhone on the table and a loan for the PC they put together eight months ago.

Wealth really isn’t that complicated.

It depends on two things: what you have and what you want.

You can increase it by making more, or spending less.

Making more is hard. You need to ask for a raise, start a side hustle, invest, and hope for the best. Maybe it’ll work out, maybe it won’t.

Spending less is easy. You need to forget how you "should" use your money, decide what you really want for yourself, and not waste a dime on anything else.

So here’s the easiest way to be wealthy:

Calculate the amount to pay yourself every month: what you make minus what you really want.

Set an automatic transfer to move this amount to another account on the day you get paid. Otherwise, there’ll be nothing left to move.

Set a savings goal for this account, and an ambitious date to reach it.

Stick to the plan, and you’ll have enough money to give your dreams a shot.

Or go buy the iPhone instead.
